There is couple arts they have power limited cable or conductors in there. so that question will varies.

The NEC does not define ranges, ovens or cooktops but based on manufacturers usage a range is a unit that has a cooktop and oven built together in one appliance. An oven is just a single or double appliance for baking , roasting, etc. A cooktop is just the burners without the oven.

May 28, 2021 · Ok this is the 2020 nec for those looking for 310.12... it doesn't exist in prior codes. IMO, 310.12(C) is saying that the ampacity of the conductor does not have to be greater than the service conductor.

300.15 explicitly requires a box unless one of those insulated NM modular splice connectors is used. 300.12 precludes making a splice without a box or insulated connector.
