One of Wisconsin’s long-standing traditions, sturgeon spearing, gets underway on Saturday. Spearers call this the best ice in the last decade.

As fishermen cut into the ice on Lake Winnebago, artists cut into snow blocks in Downtown Fond Du Lac. It's part of a three-day festival kicking off the 2025 sturgeon season.

The DNR is reminding sturgeon spearers that no ice is safe ice and to use caution when venturing out this weekend.
