President Donald Trump's broad tariffs on imported goods from Mexico and Canada went into effect on Tuesday, along with increased duties on goods from China.

Ontario, a Canadian province bordering the United States, has announced plans to impose a 25 per cent export tax on the electricity it supplies to three US states if President Donald Trump’s administration continues to impose sweeping tariffs on Canadian goods.

New York Times report stated the Ontario premier plans to communicate with political leaders in Michigan, Minnesota and New York of his intention to impose the electricity surcharge “if the tariffs persist.
