Before joining the New York Rangers, Arthur Kaliyev had not played in an NHL game since April of 2023. During training camp with the Los Angeles Kings before the start of this season, Kaliyev suffered a fractured clavicle, which sidelined him for multiple weeks.
After skating on the right wing of the third line alongside Chris Kreider and Filip Chytil on Tuesday night, Kaliyev has already played with six different Rangers. He also lined up next to Brett Berard and Jonny Brodzinski in his Blueshirts debut before skating next to Jimmy Vesey and Sam Carrick in the following contest.
The boxing-out issues continued against Utah. A minute into the game, Utah’s Ian Cole fired a point shot tipped by teammate Barrett Hayton. Igor Shesterkin made the initial stop, but Matias Maccelli got away from K’Andre Miller and buried the rebound.
If Kaliyev can revive his NHL trajectory with the Rangers, his shot will likely sit at the center of the resurgence.
