After nearly a month, the Palisades and Eaton fires in Los Angeles County have reached 100% containment, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The two blazes started on Jan.

Palisades Fire initially started 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. It has burned 23,448 acres after being active for 24 days. A crew of 800 firefighters managed to contain the blaze entirely by Friday evening. The fire's cause remains under investigation.

Friday, 11:00 a.m. PST Cal Fire data marked the Palisades Fire at 98% containment and the Eaton Fire at 99% containment. Thursday, 10:07 p.m. PST The Hughes Fire reached full containment nine days after igniting near the community of Castaic.

Pacific Coast Highway and the Pacific Palisades neighborhood are reopening to the public this weekend despite concerns from some local residents and officials who fear it's too soon to allow wide access to the fire-damaged area.

With cleanup and restoration work still ongoing in the wake of the Palisades fire, all areas of Pacific Coast Highway will nonetheless reopen to essential traffic beginning Sunday, though with only one lane open in each direction — and with reduced speeds in effect,
