The Legacy on Ice benefit event, featuring U.S. figure skating stars, payed tribute to the 67 people who died in the Washington, D.C., plane crash on Jan. 29.

Figure skaters at Twin Rinks Ice Pavilion used the ice as a way to express emotion, but it also allowed them to stop and grieve for the 28 figure skaters and coaches who died in January's plane crash.

Nathan Chen, Nancy Kerrigan and Peggy Fleming are among the figure skaters added to the cast of a benefit event this weekend in Washington, D.C., for victims of the midair collision and crash outside Ronald Reagan International Airport.

Dzens of U.S. figure skaters descended on the District this weekend: to honor the coaches, skaters and family members they lost in January’s American Airlines crash outside Reagan National Airport.

Of the 67 people killed in the mid-air collision January 29 near Washington, D.C., 28 were part of the tight-knit national figure skating community. There was a local effort Friday to raise money for their families.

WASHINGTON -- Organizers of a figure skating benefit event in Washington said they have already raised $1.2 million for victims of the D.C. plane crash and first responders.
