Estonia, along with fellow Baltic states Latvia and Lithuania, is preparing finally to rid itself of one of the last vestiges of 50 years of Soviet occupation: an electricity grid controlled by Russia.

The Baltic states will, on Sunday, end the last major energy link to Russia and become part of the EU’s electricity. This comes amid deepening fears of further sabotage to critical cables in the region due to the persistent war between Russia and Ukraine.
