Apple has reportedly scrapped a project to create new augmented reality glasses that would fit closely within the rest of its device ecosystem. The team working on the project was informed of the decision in the last week of January, according to sources familiar with the decision and reported by Bloomberg.

Apple’s long and choppy journey toward releasing a commercially available set of AR glasses just hit another snag. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company has killed a second set of prototype smartglasses designed to connect directly to its Mac computers.

In November, the same outlet reported that Apple had launched the project under the codename "Atlas," with the goal to build a pair of advanced, AR smart glasses, perhaps in order to compete with Meta's promising "Orion" prototype.
