This Phoenix race has been sloppy in the first two stages. Chase Briscoe was involved in a HUGE wreck in Stage 2. Right after Michael McDowell brought out the caution for a flat right rear, the NASCAR field got wadded up in the back.

For failing inspection twice, Michael McDowell won’t be able to make his own pit stall selection. He will also lose his car chief for the weekend. McDowell’s car did pass on the third time. Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports reported the failure earlier. It will be a minimal problem for the team ultimately but not how you want to start the weekend.

Justin Haley and Carson Hocevar both wound up with DNFs while Michael McDowell is currently multiple laps down.
