President Donald Trump said this week that Japan and South Korea were looking to work with the United States on a "gigantic" natural gas pipeline in Alaska.
The presentation came about 12 hours after President Trump pulled the trigger on a 25% tariff for products coming in from Canada and Mexico, plus 10% added to Chinese imports for a 20% total tariff. Current production for North America is about 63,900 vehicles a day, with 41,700 in the US, 17,600 in Mexico, and 4,600 in Canada.
Canada and Mexico are the leading exporters of steel to the US, but most of their products likely can be readily produced in the US, Bloomberg Intelligence analysis shows.
