Investigators in the United States have located the black boxes from the American Airlines jet that crashed into a US Army helicopter near Washington, DC, killing all 67 people on board. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said on Friday that it had recovered the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder from the Bombardier CRJ700 passenger jet that collided with a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter over Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

A Black Hawk helicopter can transport up to "12 fully equipped, seated troops in combat," according to Lockheed Martin, the weapons company that builds the helicopter. There are about 5,000 of these helicopters in use by the United States Military.
Military spokesman Ron McLendon II said the Army is joining an investigation into the crash headed by the National Transportation Security Board.
