Pope Francis is in stable condition after his episodes of acute respiratory failure on Monday, the Vatican said Tuesday.

Pope Francis had recovered enough Tuesday from two acute respiratory crises to no longer require noninvasive mechanical ventilation, the Vatican said, and was receiving just high flows of supplemental oxygen.

Pope Francis, hospitalized for more than two weeks with pneumonia in both lungs, suffered two acute respiratory failures, requiring intervention, the Vatican says.
